My family history class this semester has been interesting and insightful. I've learned a lot about my family. There's something special about learning about my ancestors. It makes them seem more real. One of my favorite discoveries was that I have a great great grandfather named John Sheppard. I find it funny because one of my favorite TV shows has a character named John Sheppard.
I've been fortunate in that several of my family members have already done a lot of our family history work. Both of my grandmothers loved doing genealogy work, and I have at least one cousin that does so as well. I feel very grateful to have a knowledge of so many of my ancestors.
My last assignment for this project in my class is to post a Personal Pedigree Chart. I'm only required to post a four generation chart, but I did five because I love seeing "John Sheppard" in my family.
Perhaps I'll keep posting more to this blog as a way to help preserve some of my family history, and also to share it with others. There is something special about family history work, and I'm excited to be a part of it.
Thats awesome!
